Britta Schölin (Sweden)

Britta Schölin, born in Congo Brazzaville, got Master degree from the School of Social Studies 1969 and has worked in the social field since then with focus on child protection and alternative family-based care. 1995 she became a psychotherapist. After five years work in the local social government she continued to the primary school for children where she stayed fifteen years. Ten years work in the child psychiatry as a director and social worker followed. She was family care consultant for children in foster homes and their foster parents in assignment of the social welfare authorities during ten years. She continues as social welfare consultant supporting foster parents. Britta is active in two associations with focus on alternative care for children. Contacts with the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and other authorities in Sweden are important. Since 2000 Britta has worked within the international sphere as IFCO and Eurochild.

My international engagement has always been important. The cooperation between people and countries can develop good possibilities for the children. I have partly grown up in institutions and in a foster home. Besides my work in different authorities and organizations in Sweden, I have carried out a twinning project with 17 different organizations during 8 years with focus on the situation for poor families in Russia. When I got in contact with IFCO 17 years ago, I realized that IFCO had the same values as me to strengthen the situation for children. I was elected as a trustee to the IFCO Board 2011, 2013, 2015. The work in the Board has been focused on IFCO’s advocacy and working relationship with UN, Eurochild and the Nordic part of Europe. As the Chairperson of the Committee for Advocacy, Membership and Policy (CAMP) of IFCO, I have lead and contributed to IFCOs visibility and work. I´m a member of the IFCO management committee implementing the Boards decisions of governance and strategy. I worked with and represent IFCO in the UN/Child Rights Connect network, participated in Eurochild CIAC-TWG group with focus on alternative care for children and de-institutionalization in Europe. The last two years I have represented IFCO in the Steering Committee of Eurochild OD-Campaign Phase two.
