Apply for the IFCO 2016 Pat Whelan Youth Fund Award
The International Foster care Organisation (IFCO) is calling for care leavers to apply for the IFCO 2016 Pat Whelan Youth Fund Award. The aim of this annual initiative is to support young people in and from care with their registration or accommodation arrangements to attend IFCO 2016 European Conference that will take place on 1-4 September 2016 in Sheffield, UK.
About the conference
This year's conference theme "Pathways: A lifelong understanding of education, trauma, intervention and success" will focus on both education and trauma – something that a child in care can experience in every step of the care process. Education, trauma, intervention and success represent moments of intensity in life-paths which may impact the future and be a lesson for experience, growth, and knowledge. On top of the dynamic academic programme for practitioners, researchers, academics, educators, foster carers and foster families, IFCO 2016 will include two youth programme tracks for children and young people with care experience, focusing on self-advocacy and empowerment of the care leavers. We believe the experience of meeting other youth, adults and decision makers at IFCO events is an opportunity that all care leavers should have. About IFCO Pat Whelan Youth Fund
The IFCO Pat Whelan Youth Fund was founded in 2007 in memory of IFCO member and former volunteer Administration Secretary Pat Whelan from Ireland. Since then, through individual and corporate donations, youth in care and care leavers from various parts of the world have been able to meet and learn from each other, advocate on behalf of care leavers at the international level and be globally heard. We welcome any donations to the IFCO Pat Whelan Youth Fund through IFCO fundraising page on GlobalGiving.
If you consider donating towards the costs of youth from particular regions or countries as a way of promoting youth in care and careleaver participation from those places, please let us know. We are very willing to match your sponsorship with a selected shortlist of countries. To find out more please take a look at our sponsorship proposal.
If you have any questions, comments or queries, please contact Lacy Kendrick Burk, IFCO Youth Committee Chairperson via firstname.lastname@example.org or on +16014411558.
