Emily is an Australian born, Maori woman who grew up in the Out-of-home Care sector in Australia. Emily had her son while attending high school and upon graduating started to work in the residential care system. This is where they noticed a significant need for representation for Young People in Out-of-home Care. Emily’s experiences has allowed her to have an honest and committed understanding of both her experience, and of other Young People’s in Australia.
Emily works to advocate for all Youth with adverse experiences to help support their independence into adulthood. Emily was a Youth Facilitator at IFCO’s 2022 Darwin International Conference.
Emily is a Brand Ambassador and National Changemaker Representative with Adopt Change where she has worked on the Empower Change program, National Conferences, and National Recommendations Papers. Emily is a young consultant with CREATE foundations where she has also MC’d CREATE’s conferences, YAGS, and hosted events for foster carers all over Australia.
As a Head Facilitator and School Engagement with Creating Chances Emily works day to day in schools teaching Young People positive development tools through sport such as rugby and football. Through Creating Chances Emily has attended Festival23, an International Festival during the Aus/NZ Women’s FIFA World Cup where she and others represented Australia on a global platform with 70 other women from across the world.
Emily is assured this is her life work and will continue to advocate for children and young peoples rights for as long as they need representation.
